Netrebko's "Anna Bolena," the most talked-about performance at the Vienna State Opera, is now on film! The cast is led by the famous and powerful Netrebko, Galancha, and D'Arcangelo, all of whom are talented singers, and the production is completely seamless. The "Anna Bolena" of the title is a real person, the second wife of King Enrico VIII of England, who staged the heyday of the Tudor dynasty. The king married Anna after breaking with the Church of Rome, but he gradually grew tired of her and eventually had her executed for her infidelity. The tragedy of Anna's gradual descent into delirium is said to be one of Donizetti's masterpieces, along with "Lucia di Lammermoor.We can't wait to see how Netrebko sings the aria from Anna's mad scene, the greatest showpiece of this opera! |
